Postgraduate Researcher
Drama
Hind Sabah Bilal is a PhD candidate in Drama at the University of Exeter, where she has been part of the Department of Communication, Drama and Film since September 2021. Her research focuses on the representation of women in contemporary Iraqi plays that address war and occupation following the 2003 war on Iraq. Employing performance and dramatic analysis, her work explores how theatre serves as a medium for cultural memory, resistance and the reimagining of gender roles in post-conflict Iraq.
Hind holds an MA in English Literature from Al-Qadisiyah University and a BA in English Language and Literature from Babylon University, both in Iraq. She is currently on academic leave from her position as a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Kufa, Iraq, and is supported by a prestigious scholarship from the Higher Committee for Developing Education in Iraq (HCED).
Her scholarly contributions include several journal articles published in Iraq and Turkey, with two forthcoming pieces in Global Performance Studies (GPS) and Arab Stages, both part of special issues dedicated to Iraqi theatre.
