Hippolyte Broud is a voice pedagogue, vocal coach, and researcher working between France and the United Kingdom. He holds a degree in Classical Studies from University College London and trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where he completed an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice and an MA in Voice Studies: Teaching and Coaching. He is currently undertaking a practice-as-research PhD at the University of Exeter under the supervision of Professor Konstantinos Thomaidis.

 

His research explores the intersections of voice pedagogy, theatrical imitation/distortion, and the historical transmission of vocal techniques, with a particular focus on archival recordings and their potential to inform contemporary actor training and performance-making.

 

He delivers papers in international conferences including When the Archive Speaks Back: Waiting as a Structural Condition in Actor’s Voice Training(EASTAP, University of Groningen, 2026), The Afterlife of a Voice: Sarah Bernhardt through Mary Marquet (University of Surrey, 2026), The Sonic Interface: Reimagining Vocal Training Through Archival Imprints (TaPRA Annual Conference, University of Warwick, 2025), and The Archive Speaks Back: Towards a Trans-Historical Vocal Practice (University of Surrey, 2025).

 

Alongside his academic work, he teaches voice and speech at Cours Cochet-Delavène in Paris and works as a vocal coach on theatre productions. Recent collaborations include Prendre soin, directed by Alexander Zeldin (Théâtre National de Strasbourg; Théâtre de la Ville), Îles flottantes by Kenza Berrada (Théâtre de l'Odéon, Théâtre de Genevilliers, Espace 1789). He has also delivered workshops in higher education institutions, including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and La Manufacture - Haute école des arts de la scène in Lausanne.
