About me:
I am an AHRC-funded PhD student researching theatre reviews in Late-Victorian London. I achieved a 1st class BA undergraduate degree in English and Drama from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2018. Following this, I started an MbyRes programme at the University of Exeter in September 2018 from which I withdrew to accept an unconditional offer for the PhD programme with a fee reduction from the College of Humanities, starting in September 2019. I have since been awarded a full scholarship through the SWW DTP scheme and am cross-supervised by academics from both Exeter and the Univeristy of Bristol for the remainder of my PhD programme.
Research Unit:
Centre for Performance Histories and Cultures / Centre for Victorian Studies
Research Project:
My research focuses on fin de siècle theatre criticism, specifically its cultural power and authority. I look at the reviews as documents of historical evidence while also questioning their bias and invistigating how the genre and our understanding of it marginalises voices and public identity in terms of gender, class and sexuality.
Research Supervisory team:
I am supervised at the University of Exeter by Professor Kate Newey and my second supervisor is Professor Catherine Hindson from the University of Bristol.
Research Wider Research Interests:
- history and historiography
- theatre reviews
- cultural materialism
- history of criticism
- feminism and queer studies
