Nan Zhou (She, Her)

Drama
Nan Zhou is a researcher and theatre practitioner whose work bridges musical theatre, immersive performance, and cross-cultural studies. She holds an MA in Musical Theatre from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a BA in Musicology from Nanjing University of the Arts. Her research, Exploring Environmental Gaze in Immersive Theatre: A Cross-Cultural Study of UK and Chinese Productions, investigates how environmental aesthetics and spatial perception shape audience experience and ecological awareness in contemporary performance.
Drawing on her diverse experience as a stage manager, vocal coach, and producer, Nan integrates artistic practice with academic inquiry to examine how immersive theatre can foster new forms of sensory engagement, cultural dialogue, and environmental consciousness. Her recent projects include multilingual and disability-inclusive productions such as Swarnboal (Golden Catfish) at Goldsmiths, the cross-cultural concert Butterfly in London, and participation in the Wuzhen Theatre Festival’s Youth Artist Competition.
Nan’s broader research interests encompass performance ecologies, environmental aesthetics, postcolonial identity in Asian theatre, and the socio-political potential of musical and immersive storytelling.
