Pratiti is a dedicated scholar, artist, and media professional with a rich academic and professional background. She holds a Master’s degree in History and Economics and a Master’s degree from Cambridge, where she honed her analytical and research skills. Currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Exeter, UK, Pratiti’s research focuses on the evolution of Odissi dance, exploring its historical roots, cultural significance, and contemporary relevance through the lens of socio-political and economic frameworks. Her work bridges tradition and innovation, addressing themes like gender, identity, and cultural preservation.

 

Pratiti’s career spans academia, media, and the arts. She has teaching experience in diverse fields, including dance and social sciences, where she has shared her knowledge and passion with students. She also served as an international news desk professional for All India Radio, reporting on global events. She has experience as a documentary and fiction filmmaker, creating works that highlight cultural stories and social issues. Her diverse experiences reflect her commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering creativity and inclusivity.

 

In her project Odissic, Pratiti reimagines traditional Odissi by blending classical elements with contemporary themes like migration. This interdisciplinary approach combines choreographic practice-as-research, social history, and political theory, creating a Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) that includes costumes, music, and set design. By addressing global issues, Odissic ensures Odissi’s relevance in a rapidly changing world.

Pratiti’s work is driven by a passion for exploring the transformative power of the arts. She believes in the potential of dance and performance to foster cultural understanding, social cohesion, and positive change. Through her research, artistic endeavors, teaching, and media work, Pratiti aims to contribute to dance, cultural theory, and social change, inspiring future generations of artists and scholars.
