Welcome to the Department of Communications, Drama, and Film.
Our three subject areas offer exciting and innovative approaches to creative learning, with practical teaching that grows out of our wide-ranging research interests. We have world-class facilities, and provide a supportive and high-quality environment for learning, with excellent links to cultural industry partners.
In Communications, our internationally leading staff research and teach across the critical history and material, social, environmental, political and cultural impacts of international media and communications industries, with particular expertise in gender, cultural and environmental equity and inclusion in digital media.
The long-established subject of Drama, renowned for our practice-based research and teaching, grows out of internationally world-leading staff research expertise in physical and vocal training, open air cultures, activist and community-engaged performance and music, and critical historiography, particularly in women’s and South Asian theatre and performance making.
Our world-leading Film and Television staff research and teach across international film and television history and contemporary industries, with expertise in women’s creative film making ‘below the line’, environmental crisis, war and film, critical archival studies and community and independent film practice.
