The Digital Majority Centre (DMC)
About
The Digital Majority Centre (DMC) is a pioneering research hub based in the Department of Communications, Drama, and Film at the University of Exeter. DMC is committed to advancing the study of digital media in the Majority World by conducting comprehensive research and building a robust network of researchers focused on addressing key issues. The centre challenges dominant narratives by exploring how digital technologies intersect with diverse cultures, geopolitical dynamics, languages, religions, and identities that define regions historically underrepresented and overlooked in existing scholarship.
Our Mission
The DMC is committed to inclusive, participatory, and decolonial research practices. Our mission is to:
- Amplify diverse voices from historically underrepresented communities in digital media research.
- Build a robust and diverse community of researchers committed to exploring the digital majority.
- Address critical research gaps in relation to digital technologies and the Majority World.
- Engage with practitioners, activists, and policymakers to ensure our work has a meaningful and real-world impact.
